The Disappearance of Kaylene Oehling, A Timeline

PITTSBURGH – In the early morning hours of January 10, 2020, Tiffany Young received a text from her daughter, Kaylene Oehling, letting her know that she would be home in the morning to babysit her younger siblings. Kaylene would not show up to babysit that morning. The text would turn out to be the last time Tiffany would hear from her daughter.

On January 9, 2020, 20-year-old Kaylene Oehling went to a friend’s house in Millvale, Pa. At 1 a.m. she was picked up by her ex-boyfriend, Michael Manno. A half hour later, at 1:36 a.m., her mother receives the text letting her mother know that she would be home in the morning to babysit. At this time, both Kaylene’s and Manno’s phones ping in Lower Etna next to the Allegheny River.

The next ping shows Kaylene’s location on the 62^nd Street Bridge in the town of Sharpsburg at 3:40 a.m. It is unknown what happened in the 2 hours between the text to her mother and this time. Call logs show that Manno made a phone call to a friend, Amir, at 3:50 a.m. There is no further information on Kaylene’s movements.

At approximately 3 p.m., Kaylene’s mother calls Manno looking for her daughter. Manno tells her that Kaylene does not want to talk to her, and refuses to put her daughter on the phone. Two days later, January 12, 2020, a missing persons report is filed with the Etna Police department.

Etna Police Department waits to file Kaylene as a missing person. The report is not filed with the national database until 5 p.m. on March 13, 2020. The case is transferred to Allegheny County Police Department at approximately 11 a.m. on June 15, 2020.

Michael Manno is the last known person to see Kaylene. He becomes the main suspect. On September 26, 2020, a protest for answers in the case is held in Penn Hills, Pa. Manno whispers to a protestor, “She is swimming with the fishes.”

On April 29, 2021 Manno is arrested by Allegheny County Police Department. He is charged with 1 count of distributing sexual material to a minor, 1 count of unlawful contact with a minor, 1 count of criminal use of communication facility, and 1 count of corruption of minors. This after an incident on February 22, 2021 where Manno sent nude photos of Kaylene to her younger sister, 17 at the time, over Facebook Messenger.

Manno reaches a plea deal with prosecutors, and receives a sentence of 6 – 12 months incarceration and 1 year probation. He was released from jail in March 2022.

Human remains are found by hunters near the 1200 block of Washington Boulevard in Pittsburgh on March 19, 2023, and authorities alerted. The Oehling Family is called about the findings. It is confirmed to be Kaylene by the medical examiner through the use of dental records.

As of the date of this article, nobody has been arrested in the Kaylene Oehling case. Acccording to authorities, the investigation is ongoing.
