About Me

My name is Amy, and this is Truth and Deliberation.

A Little History

I am neither a lawyer, nor an expert on the law. However, I do have extensive knowledge of the law and, most importantly, a deep love and respect for the law and the legal system. For several years I formally studied the criminal justice system, investigations, and other aspects of the law starting in my junior year of high school and into college. I graduated college with a bachelor’s degree in Communications, with a strong emphasis on journalism.

I have continued my studies of the law by ways of reading whatever I could get my hands on and watching trials. Still, I won’t claim to know all there is to know or to be an expert, but I do try to educate myself as much as possible to form the thoughts and opinions I hold.

Passion Is Awoken

My love of the law, criminal justice, and the criminal mind started many years ago. As a young girl, I picked up my first true crime novel, Mother’s Day by Dennis McDougal. Instantly, I was captivated, and heartbroken, by what I was reading. I wanted to understand it. What makes a person do such acts? What were the victims feeling? How do we stop this from happening again? In the years following, I would read any true crime I could get my hands on (mind you, this is before cable having endless hours of true crime shows). And, in my junior year of high school, I signed up for my first criminal justice class. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Mission

Now, many years after signing up for that first class, I am sitting at my computer working on this site. The purpose is to bring my journalism and writing skills together my love and knowledge of the law; to report withouthout bias or pretense. I do not intend to tell anyone what to think, rather to share what I learn and give truths, as I understand it, and let others deliberate and come to their own conclusions. Sometimes we will agree, sometimes we won’t. That’s okay. It’s part of the process, as long as it’s done respectfully and with purpose.

Thank you, and welcome to Truth and Deliberation.
